If you believe in two separate sets of action-guiding values, how do you begin to sort out what to do in any particular case when the two sets seem to point to contradictory outcomes? For instance, if you believe in duties towards others as well as rights assertable on behalf of the self (for instance, rights to protect your life, family or property). Would you need some sort of third "meta" set of values to arbitrate between the two apparently contradictory sets?
